The Irish Neutrality League has suggested that NATO is using the war in Ukraine to increase military spending in Europe and to enrich arms manufacturers.
The Irish Neutrality League condemns Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and Russia’s destruction of civilian targets. As a neutral country, Ireland should condemn the invasion and be to the fore in calling for peace talks. We should have nothing to do with encouraging the supply of ever more ammunition, tanks and aircraft to prolong the war.
It is now clear that NATO is using the Ukraine crisis to step up the rhetoric of warmongering and military spending. Ireland should become a voice against permanent warfare. It should make clear that it wants no part of NATO at any point.
